What You Should Know
As you prepare for your home renovation, it can be easy to get swept up in the excitement of it all. Those HGTV shows make it look like a walk in the park! Hang on to that excitement, but also keep in mind that there’s more to your project to prepare for. We’ve put together a brief list of some of the not-so-glamorous things you can expect to make some changes for to make sure your project goes smoothly and doesn’t disrupt your daily life more than it needs to.
Changes to Your Daily Schedule
If you have your morning routine down, it might be about to turn upside down. During your remodel, you may not have access to your kitchen, bathroom, or other areas that are essential to your daily habits. Knowing this ahead of time can help you to get ahead of any potential disruption and confusion; maybe the coffee maker needs to relocate to the office for a few weeks!
Creating some new routines in the lead up to your project can make the transition into living in an active renovation smoother. Change can seem daunting, but adaptability and rolling with the punches will help you along in your journey to your dream home!
What’s That Sound?
During your project, there is a good chance your home will be noisier than usual. Contractors will be coming and going, power tools will likely be used, and the general hustle and bustle of a project site will be prominent. We know that this can become overwhelming, so we recommend establishing a sanctuary, or an area in your home (or outside of it) that you can escape to when you need some peace and quiet during your renovation. Maybe a friendly neighbor can offer a relaxing reprieve, or a coffee shop down the street can keep you caffeinated and calm. We also encourage you to voice your needs to your project resources; let them know if there’s an area of your home that is off-limits, or if there are certain times during the day when 15 minutes of quiet is preferred.
Pardon the Dust
There’s no way around it: the project area will get dusty. Of course, Melton workers and contractors will take every precaution necessary to avoid excessive dust, but dust will always find a way into your home. Some stages produce more dust than others and preparing ahead of time can help to mitigate the effects.
If you, your family, your pets, etc. are sensitive to dust, investing in an air purifier for specific rooms in your house may be a good idea. Handheld vacuums, dust cloths, and other tools to combat dust will be handy as well. Together, you and your Melton team can defeat dust!
Emotions May Run High
