Making An Inspiration Board For Your Project

It All Starts With A Vision

Perhaps the most exciting part of your home remodeling journey (other than the final result) is getting to design how you want your space to look and feel. Every detail is important, from the doorknobs to the lamp shades. Sound a little overwhelming? Don’t worry, your Melton team will be there to help!

While our design team is full of creativity and expertise, it ultimately comes down to you and your vision. Creating an inspiration board can be a useful way to help you and your designers make decisions that will come together to give you the space of your dreams. There’s no wrong way to make one, but if you’re feeling stumped, we’ve put together a guide to get you started.

Let’s Talk About Our Feelings

How do you want to feel when you’re living in your newly remodeled space? Calm, happy, energized? Identifying what kind of vibe you want a specific room to have is a great place to start. Once you’ve decided you want your bathroom to feel serene and your kitchen to feel refreshing, you can start working towards the best way to accomplish that.

Color, Color, Color

Your middle school art teacher was right, color theory is real! Different hues can have big impacts on the atmosphere you’re trying to create. Bright red might not be the best choice for the calming retreat you’re going for in your bathroom. While this may seem like common sense, it goes deeper. Different shades of the same color can change the mood of a room; lime green doesn’t evoke the same feelings as sage green, so don’t be afraid to get specific here! Deciding what colors you want to infuse into your space can help you establish a vision for your environment early on.

Let’s Talk About Our Feelings (Again!)

Something that can be easy to overlook when putting together an inspiration board is texture. Considering the different textures and materials you want to use in your project is just as important as deciding what colors you want to infuse. Putting a piece of wicker furniture in a more contemporary space may look strange and lack cohesion. We recommend thinking about what textures for different items in your space will contribute to the overall vibe you’re going for.

Put A Name To A Face

Interior design and architecture styles are all based on preferences. However, there are some general trends that can help categorize varying tastes. Maybe your style is more eclectic with some contemporary flair. Or perhaps you lean more towards farmhouse finishes with some transitional accents. No idea what any of that means? Check out our overview of different design styles here!

Gather Visual Aids

Once you have a better idea of what you want, it’s a good time to find photos of rooms you like. Pinterest and Houzz are great resources to find aesthetic photos to help you visualize how you want your space to look. Websites like Canva are also excellent tools to compile all your inspiration photos, color swatches, and design ideas in one place. They’re super intuitive and easy to use, too! If online tools aren’t your thing, design and architecture magazines are a wonderful resource. Get out those crafting supplies and start collaging!

Sharing Is Caring

Once you’re happy with the collection of visuals you’ve curated, bring them in to your next design meeting! Your Melton team will love to see what your vision is, and it will help us as we work to create the best remodel for you. We can’t wait to help you bring your vision to life!
