Melton Supports Month of Modern

Unknown

During the month of October, Boulder will be alive with Month of Modern (MoM), MonthOfModern.com. Founded as a celebration of all things modern—architecture, design, lifestyle, art and culture—MoM’s mission is to cultivate a conversation about Colorado modern and present the region as a vibrant hub of modern design. Melton Design Build is a proud sponsor of this great collection of events.

The month kicked off with an AIA Colorado-sponsored panel lecture about the “Past, Present and Future of Colorado Modern,” and continues it’s innovative programming October 6-13 with “Modern Through the Lens: Behind the Scenes with CO Design Photographers.”

Throughout the week, five of Colorado’s top design photographers will take over the Month of Modern website and social media, showcasing their favorite shots, providing insight about their inspiration and offering a behind the scenes look at how each photograph takes shape.

“With a smartphone in every pocket, we forget the amount of time and expertise needed to capture incredible photography,” says Month of Modern co-founder Kate Bailey of Annabel Media. “Modern Through the Lens was founded to celebrate the art of photography, and give some of Colorado’s top design photographers their day in the spotlight.”

“Often photographs are the only way people experience a building,” says noted Colorado architecture photographer David Lauer. “Capturing the feeling of a space is not only about a great composition, but how the elements work together to create the mood. Architects and designers create three-dimensional experiences; we have to capture that same feeling in a two-dimensional way.”

The week will also be highlighted by a Facebook + Instagram photography contest where modern design lovers can take and upload shots of their favorite Colorado Modern buildings, interiors, products and art. Entries tagged with #MoMPhoto will be judged by “Likes.” The winner receives a Molded Wood Eames Side Chair from Design Within Reach worth more than $900.

“We are excited to see what ‘Colorado Modern’ means to design lovers in this state,” concludes Bailey. “The results will be compiled into a virtual scrapbook, which will be presented as a visual representation of what Colorado modern was, is and where it’s going.”
