Creating the Vision
How do you create an idea? This question might seem abstract, but visual communication requires purpose to convey a clear message. Essentially, to develop an effective, intentional design you must have a grounded process of establishing a concept. That process is called Conceptual Design.
Because conceptualization begins in the mind, it can be easy to underestimate the importance of this brainstorming phase. But Conceptual Design is the foundation on which beautiful designs are born, and where dazzling designs can fall short without a solid understanding and an open imagination. It’s the perfect time to play, experiment, and plan. With that in mind, are you ready to embark on a design adventure? Let’s walk through what Conceptual Design is and how it relates to your project.
From Idea to Reality
Simply put, Conceptual Design is the framework for establishing the core vision behind a design and a plan for how this idea will be brought to life. During this time, you will get to know your team, meet at your home to review your project goals, perform a site analysis to understand existing conditions, and generate design concepts that are in line with your budget and priorities. We will explore your wants and needs, understand design limitations and trade-offs, and develop concepts that will best fulfill your project’s vision. This step also looks at rough budgeting for your project to help guide the decision-making process. Moreover, Conceptual Design is the early, nitty-gritty phase in the design process. All the fine-tuned, personal touches such as exact color, finish, texture, and aesthetic choices will be solidified later in our adventure.
Finding Inspiration
In addition to determining all your project practicalities, this is an ideal time to immerse yourself in inspiration and mood boards – really research the endless design possibilities and what best suits your dreams, goals, and style preferences. Most importantly, this is a time to have fun and discover what you like; expression and innovation will take center stage as we work together to design a project you’ll love. Not only will your space change during this time, you’ll also be introduced to a slew of new terminologies and vocabulary that are common in the design world.
Speaking the Language
We know this may feel intimidating and overwhelming, it’s the perfect opportunity to harness that uncertain energy and turn it into enthusiasm about the future of your project. We also understand these fears are very real, and we promise to be there with you every step of the way! We got you.
As you move forward with your project, it’s going to be key to understand trade talk. Keeping that in mind, we want to share some commonly used terms you’re going to hear and use throughout your Conceptual Design journey. Please use this guide as a resource throughout the process.
We hope you find it helpful and educational! Like you, we cannot wait to see your space transform, and we are so grateful to be a part of your project. It’s time to create magic!
